I used McMaster Carr a lot in the years when I was making my own woodworking machinery. They are a first rate company. The biggest problem in negotiating one's way around a catalog like that is knowing what to call something so it can be looked up, and there are always things you didn't know even existed off the shelf. I used to read those catalogs randomly just to see what all was out there in the world.

Anyone got a more official viscosity rating for the Silmar 41? Or a confirmation of the 470 cP?

Keep in mind also that the resin will thicken in time unless you are using say all of the barrel in a week. As the airspace in the barrel grows there will be more oxidation.

My rep from NA Composites confirmed the viscosity to be near 500, so there are quite a few pumps that will handle it. I'm thinking the plastic rotary drum pump with ryton housing will be the easiest to operate and give the best control over dispensing.

Can't link directly to the product, so go here:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#drum-dispensing-pumps/=l8c2a4 then click Rotary Plastic Drum Pumps, and it's pump E on the page. Or, search item 67515K59.

I am also ordering 4324k27 in case I transfer resin to 5 gallon pails (or order them in 5 gallon pails in the future) so I have a pump for that as well. Even handling this stuff in 5 gallon pails is messy when they are full.

With a drum and a pump, waste will be minimal.

Here's an update:

The handpump (Item 4324k27) is completely useless.

The plastic rotary drum pump (67515K59) is totally awesome! Assemble legs, screw into drum, crank, and it's effortless with no wasted resin spilling anywhere.

Here's a photo of my drum from NAC with the pump attached:

Does the pump remain free running after resin sits in it overnight?

After 24hrs, I was able to crank out resin, same today as yesterday.

Will let it sit from Friday - Monday and let you know.

Great news! Does the good pump have a way to use it in 5 gallon containers?

Nope, just checked. 15 gallon minimum. Crying or Very sad

Have you thought of just turning a drum upside down and letting gravity to the work?
