A friend from the US who makes Orgonite has sent me a box of rhinestones.
Does anybody use them for making orgonite? Question

Thank you?

A rhinestone, paste or diamante is a diamond simulant made from rock crystal, glass or acrylic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinestone

Pure quartz, traditionally called rock crystal (sometimes called clear quartz), is colorless and transparent (clear) or translucent....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartz

If they are pure clear quartz they will be useful, but too small to use as a main crystal.
If glass or paste, useless except as decoration.

If you are not absolutely certain what you have, don't use them except as decoration, imo.

I am not sure if the pictures will be clean enough

These are not rhinestones- this appears to be tumbled quartz or glass. Pictures too poor for me to tell which.

They look like tumbled mini-quartz to me as some seem to have a little cloudiness in them, but I'm not 100% sure. Another picture/scan on a black background with better resolution would be useful, this is too blurred to tell much.

Maybe take them to a crystal shop and ask them.

Yeah, I am really sorry folks for the quality of the photos; I have tried with different lights and backgrounds to no avail... this is perhaps the best shot.

On the box it says Bergkristal Brazil, which translate to Rhinestones hence my question.

They are quite cloudy and some almost yellowish so I doubt they should be just decorative glass (?).

We make only tactical Orgonite (TBs and HHGs) therefore nothing 'aesthetic' or pretty and we usually put quartz, tourmaline or amethyst: if we have other stones we add them but if this is just worthless glass is better to chuck it in the bin!

Here on the island there is no crystal shops unfortunately...

Before you toss them, try scratching a piece of glass with one.

The mohs test just recently crossed my mind, after dabbling in mineral id a while back.

They look like quartz to me. Nice and clear but not as perfect inside as glass would be.

They would be good for small pieces, like an orgonite on a ring or a small pendant.

That's an excellent pic- I'd use these in a heartbeat. Nice quality tumbled quartz. You could bionize them if you wish- IMO it bumps the activity level.

These would make nice personal pieces. Small enough for pendants and pocket pieces. Quick and easy for TBs. Good stuff Very Happy
