When I spoke to the guy about how much catalyst to use to use (on clear casting polyester resin) he told me 1 %, I was wondering how much to others use, and is there a standard? There is nothing on the container to say how much catalyst to use.

Thanks!

I know this doesn't belong here, but I had been visiting yard sales and all of a sudden I'm buying small candy dishes, and muffin tins for molds.

www.uscomposites.com/pdf/MEKPDirections.pdf

This one might be more useful. It gives directions for layers.

The actual can had amount varying with temp but I didn't find that.

I use 1 oz per gallon at 70 - 80 degrees. Adjust accordingly for temps. Warmer use less. Colder needs more.

When pouring multiple layered pieces you will want to use progressively Less catalyst. The heat of the curing layers warms the resin poured above it.
In a 4 or 5 layered pour, one could easily be using Half of the amount of catalyst on the last layer compared to the first poured layer.

If your piece gets too hot during curing, it will crack.

Use 10 drops of catalyst per ounce of resin at 70 degrees F.

A couple of drops, more or less, depending on the ambient temperature.

Try to get the resin to 70, more if possible. You have to adjust your catalyst down, but No Bubbles with warm resin when stirring in the MEKP catalyst.

Same principle with 2 part epoxy. Warm resin means less bubbles when mixing, but a faster working and curing time.
