Just wondering if anyone knows if this will have the same properties as a complete one? They are a lot cheaper to buy as a strand.

Should work fine. Go for it Very Happy

There are lots of sources for metal shavings around- I have one a half block away that turns competition yo-yos. Key shavings from anywhere that cuts keys work nicely in orgonite. A local boatworks has aluminum shavings available. Metal shops have aluminum and often steel shavings.

Do you have a local recycling center? Aluminum, steel, and copper may be available there at relatively good prices.

Hi Ruth and thanks for the welcome Smile

I have visited a few locksmiths and engineering places, plus phoned a couple of scrap places, but to no avail. There is a keycutter in sainsbury and he's collecting the cuttings for me (Very kind of him)...I ended up buying a small amount from ebay ... titanium and phosphor bronze. It's a bit frustrating not being able to find a good supplier...I'll find some soon enough! I don't mind liquidizing the foil...it's quite fun and cheap to do...it's a process as a part of making organite, so it keeps me mindful and positive oddly enough!

Orgone Crystals has the best shavings I've ever worked with. Wish the overseas shipping wasn't so painfully expensive. They're clean, and they're small enough to mix with the resin when pouring, and I'm spoiled. They often have other metals too, brass and copper, same high quality.

Your local ceramic supply probably carries the iron oxide powders by the pound, red, yellow, and black, at very reasonable prices, and they will add color as well as variety to your pieces.

Happy pouring Very Happy

Machine shops (with lathes etc) will have a huge amount of turnings. Typically aluminum.

I grabbed 4 gallons for free from a shop in the industrial section. Scrap companies will sometimes tell you the shops that drop off all the material too. Or backtrack from a machinist, if you have one in the family or a friend/mate of a friend.

There is a steel recycling place here that has a giant pile, but I haven't used that 5 gal I got yet.

Guess it really depends on the city and surrounding areas.

A nice mobile locksmith dropped a bag off of brass in the mailbox. Got some from Rona too.

Planning on gifting a lot back since people have been nice!

Best of luck in your searches. Very Happy
