Anyone have any good tips on water storage?

We had a lot of freezing rain, and a local water main broke, leaving us without water.. probably for just a few hours and this is no big deal, but it got me thinking about getting more prepared.

A few years ago I had filled up bottles of filtered water for storage, adding some drops of "Aerobic Oxygen," a stabilized oxygen product. Any idea how long those bottles will still be good for drinking? Any better methods?

I've only had orgonite sitting next to the bottles for the past year or so.

I also filled up a very large container of water, without any additive, for flushing the toilet and bathing. I'm not even sure that I'd want to bathe in water that has been sitting for 5 years. So I guess my question is, how often should stored water be replaced, and do those oxygenated water products really extend the shelf life?

Great questions Karen, I wouldn't mind finding out the answers myself, hopefully someone on here will have some great ideas.

There must be a water purification/energization device that can be used on stored water even if it's a little funky, to make it safe.

To tell you the truth, storing water in a tank without any means to keep it energized will spoil the water. Try to get books on Victor Schauberger and you'll understand what to do to store water optimally without spoiling. If you saw amphoras, then their hidden purpose is to keep the water from spoiling, because the water moves in a vortex effect slowly inside the amphoras.

Careful with the stabilized oxygen products, they might contain toxic stabilizers. Like the hydrogen peroxide 3% bottles sold at the drug stores, they contain as well stabilizers that are toxic if taken internally. It is only good as topically. Best way to use hydrogen peroxide in the water is to find food grade hydrogen peroxide (35%) and dilute it to 3% with distilled water. Hydrogen peroxide has a lot of uses even in the household, besides taking it orally or even using it together with the baking powder as a toothpaste with the additional benefit, extremely cheap whittening the teeth without going to the dentist.

Indirectly related to water storage using food grade h2o2, my local carrier stopped carrying it because they weren't properly storing it in a cool, dark place and the plastic bottles were exploding, presumably from the natural decay. Needless to say, it was a mess and a bit of a hazard - 35% h2o2 can burn skin. I've always stored it in a freezer, which doesn't freeze it. I was referred to their distributor Azure Standard, which is almost 3 hours from me. I'll be making a trip out there because a gallon of 35% h2o2 is only $12 and when diluted to 3%, is only $1. You might consider contacting them to find a carrier or distributor near you.

Just an idea - I store a dozen or so gallons of drinkable water in glass one gallon jars (plastic will exude chems into the water).

Nothing special otherwise.

There's keeping water sterile/safe, and keeping water "alive".

For the first, H2O2, colloidal silver, Iodine, Potassium Permanganate and Chlorine based purifying tabs will do the job. The last three need to be used with caution as they all can have negative effects on the body, but you gotta drink.

For keeping it alive, pour the water from one container to another to help jig it up a little, ideally over a height. Alternatively try setting up a vortex in a bottle by holding the bottle vertically but upside down. Move the bottle quickly in a circle about the diameter of a dinner plate until the water inside looks like it's moving around. Remove the cap and catch the water in a bucket underneath. You should get a tornado like vortex as the water runs out, and air runs in at the same time.

Edit: Forgetting the obvious
Orgonite has a affinity for water, don't forget to put some around your storage area Wink

British Berkefeld water filters are ?gravity flow? filters that do not require water pressure or electricity to work.

Hi ALL,Ii just reread this thread and thought I might add a little here.
If you were to distill water, not filter it, then you would have about the
purest form that can be had.
Some people refuse to believe that it is the same as pure rain water so Ii guess you could spin it in the Schaunberger fashion or but some clean magnetite and / or obsidium or volcanic rocks into the containers.
If you were to look at John Milewskis site you will see how he treats his water bottles with the magneite shells he inserts the bottles into.
For myself Ii have constructed a metal 'funnel' shaped piece that comfortabley sits over my pyrex pot that I put water into boil... steam forms.. goes up thru the top and along a plastic (food grade) tube that I then drain into another glass jar, pot what have you and out comes the water.
That way I know it isn't contaminated with any bacterial growth that gets left behind from dirty filters then I can treat it however I choose.
You could seal the connections with a silicon gel sealant, similar to the molding silicon that Meta suggested for building the silicon molds.

Another way of energising water is to run it through flowforms

In ancient times, sailors put a solid silver coin in their water barrels, especially on long voyages.

Real silver is antibacterial, don't ya know.

Hello all,
I store about 400 gallons of water and adding another 500 gallons. I use household bleach in with the water. I use 50-55 gallon plastic drums that were used for soda pop syrup. The ones i have are white and are located in a part of the basement without light. I also distill my own water(energized water). Go to the website
www.johnellis.com and check out his water machines. I have one and it works great. Great website too. Good luck as we need it in these times. Pilot
