control, alt , delete. brings up the windows (task manager menu)

click processes

click explorer.exe

click end task

windows closes, click file , then new task, type exporer.exe in the white box, press enter and it reboots. Smile

Hi Chris,

I do that sometimes when hardware like my external hard drive decides to lock up Explorer, and I have to shut down Explorer before removing the hardware. But doesn't that procedure just shut down Explorer? Task Manager shows all the other tasks still running.

Is that called a reboot? I thought only an OS reboot was a reboot, but maybe I'm wrong!

Hi karen, i use it to refresh windows if a progarm hangs for a long time or windows has a problem , intstead of shutting down and restarting the whole cpu.

Restarting explorer seems to be less drastic and faster, especially during a windows error. Although it looks like a reboot, it may not be an official reboot. Cool
