Ok, here I go again ...

I was reading that you can mix your metals in with the resin before pouring into a mould.

Is this best if you're making non layered pieces?

I also read that you should let your release agent dry first. Hmmm.... not sure how that works, considering I've been using vegetable spray and it doesn't really dry.

I apologize if these questions have been answered somewhere, but I searched and I didn't see anything. Maybe I'm not putting in the right words in the search box.

Blessings Smile

Try using Google instead. Type Warrior Matrix and the search term, such as resin, or release agent, or something else relevant, and you will get results. I just looked up warrior matrix release agent, using exactly that set of words, and found at least 4 results.

Some metals are so fine that you need to mix them in with the resin first, that is the only way you can get the resin to completely saturate the metal. With bigger metals you still want to give it a poke with a skewer or something to make sure the resin gets everywhere... If you do get pockets on the outside the piece is fine and functional, it is just a cosmetic issue.

The drying of the vegetable oil is to make sure there are no drops left in the mold that may mess up the surface of the piece. If you use a martini glass and there is a drop of release agent on the top it can be a bit sad Rolling Eyes

Happy pouring!

I always mix the metal into the resin before pouring into the mold. I think it helps the metal get covered with resin. I fill the mold halfway, add a crystal, then fill up or even out what is left between the molds. Then I add whatever extra like selenite and blue kyanite, black obsidian etc.
If the metal is superfine, then I mix into resin, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then add hardener and work from there.
If your release agent is actually called Release Agent, and not just a generic item like silicone lube or whatever else you might use, then yes I can see why drying would be optimal for its performance. I have e bought actual release agent on ebay, and it does work well, but I don't see any benefit from spending the extra money when silicone spray lube works just as well.

I always use wax as release agent in metal and plastic molds. I find that I don't need anything for silicon molds. I usually add the metal later but always lay down a layer of resin before adding.
