I'm a bit worried about how it's best to dispose the 3 small bottles of MEKP hardener i have leftover, as its nasty stuff.

would it be best to add all 3 bottles to my last small bit of resin and make a crude towerbuster, just to use it up?

any tips much appreciated Confused

Save it for your next batch? Every time I buy a drum of resin they always give to too much hardener so I save it just in case I run low.

I highly recommend that you do NOT use left over hardner, unless you have run out of the newest batch.

Use the new, fresh hardener that comes with each order of resin.

Hardener/catalyst loses it's potency over time. You can tell that is is going stale when your pieces are sticky on the surface and you have used the same amount that you usually do. This can be frustrating when you have a complicated piece that you have put a lot of work into and it never quite seems to harden fully. So save yourself this disappointing experience by using the newest hardener that you get.

If you have to use old hardener/catalyst, often you can compensate by using more of it. I would guess 30% to 50% more after 6 months, depending on it's age.

6 months seems to be the magic number when the catalyst starts to go stale.

I dispose of old hardener by putting the remainder in a small amount of resin. Be careful (and stir fast) as it will will harden quickly and get Very hot. This way, though, it will not be a liquid when you dispose of it.

Great question scratch !

That's great - thanks Sensei, one of the bottles is over a year old so i'll mix them up and let it harden.

Thanks for that Sensei, I had no idea that catalyst went bad. None of mine has gotten past the 6 month age though so that's probably why I didn't notice.

Hi all,
Thanks for the tips, Sensei,

I have been pouring some resin and hardener which are a few years old. My first pour produced sticky pieces. I tried a second batch with more hardener (maybe 40pct more) which produced satisfying results (for basic TBs). They do take an hour or two to cure though. So long as it works Exclamation Question
