Very Happy Its been another great day making orgonite, with a few ups and downs. The pieces I made didnt turn out as good as my first pieces . I made a few mistakes to start off. I had planned to make 5 pieces, 4 HHGs and 1 mini HHG / UFO Very Happy . I used about 2 pints of resin and added about 14mls of catalyst and stirred it for about 2mins. When I was pouring the resin into my 10oz martini glasses, I had nearly finished adding more resin and metal and then noticed that the resin had began to turn really thick, so I went to stir it and could feel it had started to harden in the bottom of the pouring jug Sad .

Dam it I thought, so I ended up wasting nearly a whole 1 pint of resin. Im thinking there could be 2 reasons for it curing so fast, 1 because the outside temperature at the time was around 12 degrees or 2 I added to much catalyst. I then waited for the resin in my pouring jug to harden so I could dispose of it and start again. My first HHGs turned out ok apart from being a bit uneven on the bottom from where I poured the thick resin into the mold to finish them off.

So I started again and this time I used about 15oz of resin with about 8mls of catalyst. My next mistake was I added my crystals into the tip of the glasses before pouring the resin and this has caused some of the crystals to be exposed as you might see in my pictures. I know for next time to add the resin before the crystals because the resin coudnt run down the side of the crystals.

This time the resin took longer to heat up and harden, so I placed them into my shed and pointed a blow heater onto them. After about an hour the resin and glasses was nice and hot so I new then it was beginning to cure Very Happy.

I placed my first HHGs I made which were still in the martini glasses onto a glass table. When I was placing something onto one of the shelfs by accident I knocked one of the HHGs of the table smasing the glass and chipping the resin slightly Sad . OH WELL the chip isn't to bad and I suppose its one of those things that are likely to happen. Have to reorder some more martini glasses.

So apart from a few mistakes and accidents they didnt turn out to bad and the main thing is the orgonite will still work 24/7 Very Happy

I had a bit of trouble removing this UFO from the mold. I think its because there are a few holes exposing some of the crystals creating an air lock and vacuum against the mold, I did manage to remove it after a few taps and pusing it with my fingers.

These clouds appeared after making the orgonite, I can see like a spiral and curls in the sky, I like to think its the Orgone energy causing this Very Happy

The only thing that my pieces are missing is some colour and water clear resin which will come soon. I think I will start off by using 1 colour at a time and then move onto multi layered colours etc.

Hope you like my pieces and sorry if the post is a bit long, just wanted to share my experience with you Very Happy

In future I will only make a few pieces at a time instead of making loads. Its like trying to run before you can walk. Sometimes quality is better than quantity.

The larger pours sometimes require less catalyst because the thermal effect is greater in higher mass. A larger quantity will build up heat faster. When doing TB, HHG's, and other multiples that require a fair amount of time to compete I got to where I would not mix more than 16 ounces at a time. Of course, you can back off on catalyst too for larger pours, but larger masses are a tad unpredictable at times, and there is a crossing point beyond which the resin will gel very fast all of a sudden. It can be a real problem in the hot months especially.

i usually use less catylyst, stir a lot and sometimes have a longer wait and anticipation for the process to get to the point the orgonite can be removed from the molds. When the resin starts to set in the pouring implement I try and toss in some shavings and broken crystals and stir hard-usually a pretty messy glob results but, when I can remove it from the pitcher, I bury it as is. i use bendable plastic pourers so thye can be squeezed to extract the resulting messes- I bet they work as well as any field piece. You think?

Good work

Next time I will try to work out how much catalyst to use :

10ml = 1% of catalyst to 100g = 35 fluid ounces of resin etc.

My pouring jug is bendable plastic and I was quite suprised that it didn't melt once the wasted resin had become hot and cured. After its hardened its quite easy to move and bend so it makes it easy to peel the thin coating of resin off.
